That “unpaid toll” or “undeliverable package” text? Probably fake.
Scam texts (aka smishing) are on the rise—and they’re designed to look urgent so you panic and click.
Here’s what to do instead:
1. Don’t Click the Link
It could lead to a fake login page, malware download, or spyware. Just close the message.
2. Don’t Reply or Call Back
Even replying “STOP” tells scammers your number is active. Ignore and report instead.
3. Verify the Claim Yourself
Go directly to the company’s website or app—never trust the message link.
4. Report the Scam
Forward the message to SPAM. It helps carriers shut them down faster.
5. Strengthen Your Phone’s Security
Turn on 2FA, use a password manager, keep your OS updated, and consider a trusted mobile security app.
Consumers lost over $330M to scam texts last year alone. Don’t let your info be next.
